Why Book the Tipis at Riley Green for Your Wedding: A Photographer’s Perspective
Your wedding day is a celebration of love, joy, and togetherness, and the venue you choose plays a significant role in setting the tone and atmosphere of your big day. While traditional venues are always a reliable choice, increasingly couples are opting for something more unique and personal like the stunning tipis at Riley Green. As a photographer, I can confidently say that these tipis offer an unforgettable backdrop for your wedding, creating a relaxed, intimate, and truly magical experience.
In this blog post, I’ll explain why booking the tipis at Riley Green for your wedding is an excellent decision not just for the overall vibe but also for creating incredible wedding photographs that you will cherish forever.
1. A Unique and Picturesque Setting
One of the standout reasons to book the tipis at Riley Green is the venue’s natural beauty. Located in the heart of the countryside, the site offers a stunning setting surrounded by lush greenery, rolling fields, and tranquil views the perfect environment for a rustic and elegant wedding.
As a photographer, I’m always looking for settings that add depth and character to the images. The tipis themselves are magnificent structures, with their sweeping canvas roofs and intricate detailing. They offer a rustic charm, while still being spacious and comfortable. When set up with fairy lights, candles, and beautiful floral arrangements, the tipis transform into a breathtaking venue that provides endless opportunities for stunning photographs.
Whether you’re hosting your ceremony inside the tipis or using them as your reception space, the surrounding landscape and natural light create the ideal backdrop for everything from intimate portraits to large group shots. The ever-changing natural lighting throughout the day provides a range of moods and tones that will bring your photos to life, whether you're taking them in the golden hour sunlight, under a dramatic stormy sky, or at twilight with the warm glow of the lights in the background.
2. Versatility and Customisation
The beauty of the tipis at Riley Green lies in their versatility. Unlike traditional venues, the tipis offer flexibility in how they can be styled and arranged. This means you can truly make the space your own, reflecting your personal style and the unique theme you have in mind for your wedding.
Whether you dream of a vintage, bohemian, or festival-style wedding, the tipis provide a blank canvas for you to bring your vision to life. You can add floral installations, rustic wooden furniture, or extravagant chandeliers, the possibilities are endless! As a photographer, this is incredibly exciting because I can tailor the photos to the distinctive style you’ve chosen, creating a cohesive set of images that truly tell the story of your wedding day.
For example, I love capturing the contrast between the natural, earthy tones of the venue and the rich colours of your floral arrangements, table settings, and wedding attire. The unique and adaptable space allows for creativity, making each shot feel fresh and personal.
3. An Intimate and Personal Atmosphere
One of the reasons so many couples choose the tipis at Riley Green is the intimate atmosphere they provide. Unlike large, impersonal venues, the tipis offer a warm, cosy, and welcoming space that encourages close connection between guests.
This sense of intimacy is perfect for creating genuine moments between you and your loved ones, moments that are a joy to capture. The relaxed, informal vibe encourages guests to let their guard down and enjoy the day without the stiffness of a more traditional setting. As a photographer, this results in truly candid and emotional shots. I’m able to capture real, unposed moments from laughter-filled conversations to joyful dances and heartfelt speeches.
The outdoor nature of the tipis also means you can easily incorporate natural elements into your wedding, whether it's a stunning outdoor ceremony, an alfresco dinner, or a late-night bonfire. These elements provide beautiful and dynamic shots, as well as more intimate moments with your guests, giving your wedding album a personal touch.
4. Plenty of Space for All Your Guests
One common concern couples may have when considering a tipi wedding is the space available for guests. The tipis at Riley Green are designed to be spacious and adaptable. With multiple tipis available, you can easily accommodate large wedding parties, making it a perfect option for both intimate weddings and larger celebrations.
The space allows for a variety of different areas — a designated dining area, a dance floor, a cosy corner for guests to relax, and plenty of space for mingling. As a photographer, this layout allows me to move freely and capture the event from multiple angles. I’m able to photograph guests enjoying themselves in different parts of the venue, ensuring no important moment goes unnoticed.
Moreover, the versatility of the tipis means that we can capture a range of different wedding shots, from wide-angle shots of the entire space to more personal, close-up moments between the couple and their guests. This variety adds richness and depth to the final wedding album.
5. Stunning Sunset and Nighttime Photos
One of my absolute favourite things about the tipis at Riley Green is the incredible opportunity to capture stunning sunset and nighttime photographs. As the sun sets over the countryside, the sky is painted in hues of orange, pink, and purple, creating a breathtaking backdrop for your wedding photos.
The open fields surrounding the tipis also allow for perfect portraits during the golden hour. As the soft light of the setting sun bathes you and your guests in a warm glow, the images that result are timeless and romantic. This is an ideal time for capturing couples’ portraits that exude warmth, love, and the magic of the moment.
As the evening continues, the tipis come alive with lights, candles, and fairy lights twinkling in the dark. The contrast between the soft glow inside the tipis and the deepening night sky creates a truly enchanting atmosphere. These lighting conditions are perfect for capturing some of the most magical photos of your wedding day, from the first dance to moments shared with loved ones.
6. Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Weddings
For couples who are passionate about the environment, Riley Green and its tipis are a great choice for a sustainable wedding. The tipis are a more eco-friendly option compared to traditional venues, which often require energy-intensive lighting and heating. Additionally, the natural surroundings and the emphasis on outdoor spaces help create a harmonious connection with nature.
As a photographer, I love working in environments that are mindful of sustainability because they offer a raw, authentic aesthetic. The organic beauty of nature becomes an extension of the celebration, enhancing the photographs with elements like natural light, greenery, and the natural textures of wood and canvas.
7. Unforgettable Memories in a Stunning Location
Ultimately, booking the tipis at Riley Green provides more than just a beautiful wedding venue — it offers an unforgettable experience that will remain etched in your memories forever. From the moment you arrive and see the stunning tipis set against the idyllic countryside backdrop, to the relaxed yet elegant atmosphere of your reception, every part of your day will feel special.
As your photographer, I can promise that the tipis will provide an unparalleled setting for capturing moments that reflect the essence of your love story. The natural beauty, intimate atmosphere, and flexibility of the space make it one of the most visually striking venues I’ve had the pleasure of working in.

How to select the Right Wedding Photography Package
There are many different options available for your wedding photography, so how do you decide on the right package for you?
Your wedding day is one of the most significant milestones in your life. As you walk down the aisle, exchange vows, and celebrate with friends and family, the memories you create will stay with you forever. Choosing the right wedding photographer to capture these moments is essential but with so many different packages available, how do you know which one is the best fit for you?
At The Story of You, we understand that every couple is unique, and so are their wedding photography needs. Whether you're looking for full-day coverage or just a few hours of shots, there are various options to consider. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the process of selecting the ideal wedding photography package, helping you make an informed decision that reflects your style, preferences, and budget.
1. Understand the Different Types of Wedding Photography Packages
When it comes to wedding photography, the most important step is to understand the types of packages available. Generally, wedding photography packages fall into a few main categories:
Full-Day Coverage
Full-day coverage typically means your photographer will be with you from the morning preparations all the way through to the evening celebrations. This package is ideal for couples who want to capture every moment of their big day from getting ready, to the ceremony, reception, and even late-night dancing. This is usually around 10 hour of coverage
Half-Day Coverage
If you don’t want your photographer to be with you all day, a half-day package is an option. This usually covers the ceremony and part of the reception, offering enough time for key moments like the couple portraits, family photos, and the first dance. A half day package from The Story of You is around 6 hours of coverage
Shorter Coverage
For more intimate weddings, or if you prefer fewer formal shots, a shorter package (typically 3 hours or less) may be a good choice. This is perfect if you're having a small ceremony or only need coverage for specific parts of the day, such as the ceremony and group shots.
Custom Packages
At The Story of You, we offer flexibility with custom packages. If none of the standard packages perfectly suits your needs, we can create a bespoke option tailored to the specific moments you want captured. Custom packages allow for more control over what you get and can help ensure you're not paying for hours of coverage that aren’t necessary.
2. Consider Your Budget
Wedding photography is one of the most important investments you’ll make for your big day. While we all want beautiful photos, it’s important to be realistic about your budget. Wedding photography packages can range from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds, depending on the photographer’s experience, the length of coverage, and any additional services included (such as albums, prints, or second shooters).
To choose the right package for your budget, consider:
What you can afford: Be honest about how much you’re willing to spend on wedding photography. Remember, this is an investment that will preserve your memories for a lifetime. Your wedding photographs are often the only remaining physical memory from your wedding day, that can stay with you forever.
What’s included: Some packages may appear cheaper upfront but don’t include key services, such as travel costs or high-quality prints. Be sure to compare what’s included in the cost.
Consider value over cost: Wedding photography isn’t just about the price — it’s about the experience and the quality of work you’ll receive. Opting for the cheapest option may lead to disappointment, so look for a photographer who aligns with your style and offers a value-packed package.
3. What’s Included in the Package?
When evaluating a wedding photography package, always look at what’s included. Some packages are all-inclusive, while others may offer additional add-ons for an extra fee. Common inclusions to look out for are:
Number of hours: Make sure the package covers enough hours for your wedding. It’s important to discuss the timeline of your day with your photographer to ensure they’re available for key moments.
Pre-wedding consultation: Many photographers offer a pre-wedding consultation or engagement shoot, which gives you a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and discuss the details of your day.
Second photographer: A second shooter can provide a more comprehensive view of your wedding day, capturing candid moments, different angles, and a wider range of emotions. Some packages include this service, while others offer it as an additional option.
Editing and post-production: Some photographers include full editing in the package, while others may charge extra for this service. Be sure to clarify what’s included in the post-production process to ensure your photos are polished and professionally edited.
Albums and prints: Wedding albums and prints can often be added to packages, but not all photographers include these in the initial package. If having a physical album is important to you, make sure to choose a package that offers this or is available as an add-on.
Travel fees: If your wedding is outside the photographer’s local area, ensure the cost of travel is included, or ask about additional travel fees.
4. Do You Need a Second Shooter?
A second photographer is an additional professional photographer who works alongside the main photographer to capture more moments throughout the day. This is especially beneficial for larger weddings or those with multiple locations.
A second shooter is ideal if you’re planning a grand wedding or want to ensure every detail is captured — such as the groom’s reaction to the bride walking down the aisle, or candid shots of guests during the reception. If your photographer offers the option of adding a second shooter, it may be worth considering for comprehensive coverage.
At The Story of You, we offer second shooters as part of many of our packages, ensuring you get a wider range of photographs and more moments captured.
5. Personal Style and Experience of the Photographer
The best wedding photography package for you should align with your personal style and the kind of memories you want to create. Consider the photographer’s style and experience when selecting a package. Do you want candid, documentary-style shots, or more traditional, posed portraits?
It’s also worth checking the photographer’s portfolio to ensure their work resonates with you. A photographer’s style will significantly impact how your photos turn out, so choose one whose work you love. Don’t be afraid to ask for references or reviews from past clients.
6. Discuss the Timeline of Your Day
Once you’ve shortlisted a few photographers and packages, have a conversation about the timeline of your wedding day. This helps to ensure the photographer can capture all the essential moments and gives them an idea of how long they’ll need to be there.
If your wedding is spread out over different locations or has multiple key events (e.g., pre-wedding photos, ceremony, reception, speeches, and dancing), you may need extended coverage. If it’s a more intimate affair, a shorter package might be sufficient.
7. Review the Contract and Terms
Once you’ve selected your wedding photography package, make sure to carefully review the photographer’s contract. This should include the following:
Payment structure: Ensure you understand the deposit amount and the schedule for full payment.
Cancellation and rescheduling policies: Life can be unpredictable, so it’s important to know the photographer’s cancellation or rescheduling policy in case your wedding plans change.
Delivery timeline: Ask about the photographer’s expected delivery timeline for your wedding photos. You don’t want to be left waiting months for your images, so confirm how long it will take before you receive your final photos and any prints or albums.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right wedding photography package is a big decision, but with careful consideration, you can ensure that the memories of your wedding day are beautifully captured for years to come. Whether you're planning a grand celebration or an intimate affair, The Story of You offers a variety of packages designed to suit different budgets, styles, and needs.
By understanding your options, setting a realistic budget, and considering what’s included in each package, you’ll be able to make an informed decision that reflects your vision for the big day. After all, your wedding photos are the timeless keepsakes you’ll cherish forever.

Why Book a Newborn Photography Session with The Story of You
Looking at a newborn photographer? Here is why you should book a newborn photoshoot
Welcoming a newborn into your family is one of life’s most magical moments. The tiny hands, the soft baby skin, and those precious first few weeks are a time to be cherished and remembered forever. One of the best ways to capture these fleeting moments is through professional newborn photography. At The Story of You, I understand the importance of these early memories and strive to create images that will last a lifetime. In this blog post, I’ll share why booking a newborn photography session with me is the perfect way to preserve your baby’s earliest moments.
1. Expertise and Experience in Newborn Photography
Newborn photography is a specialised art form that requires skill, patience, and an understanding of both lighting and baby safety. At The Story of You, I am experienced in working with newborns, and know how to create beautiful, serene images while ensuring your baby’s comfort and safety at all times.
Unlike other types of photography, newborn sessions are time-sensitive. Babies are best photographed within the first 14 days of life, as they are still in that sleepy, curled-up stage. I have mastered the techniques that make these early weeks so special, from posing your baby safely to capturing those little details, like their tiny fingers and toes, that make newborn photos so precious.
2. Creating Timeless, Sentimental Keepsakes
Newborn photography isn’t just about capturing a moment — it’s about preserving memories for a lifetime. Your baby will grow so quickly, and before you know it, they’ll no longer be the tiny bundle you bring home from the hospital. Booking a newborn photography session with The Story of You ensures that you have beautifully captured keepsakes to look back on.
Our high-quality prints and albums are designed to last for generations, giving you a lasting reminder of your baby’s first days. Whether you choose a framed print for your home or a custom photo album, your newborn images will remain timeless treasures that you and your family will cherish for years to come.
3. Customised Sessions Tailored to Your Style
At The Story of You, I believe that every family is unique, and your newborn photography session should reflect your individual style. I offer a variety of settings and styles to suit your preferences, whether you want something classic, simple, and elegant or more creative and whimsical.
From soft, neutral tones to vibrant backdrops, I work with you to create the perfect environment for your baby’s photo session. You can choose from various props, such as hats, blankets, and personalised items, to add a special touch to your photos. If you prefer a minimalist approach, I can focus solely on the natural beauty of your baby, with no props or distractions.
4. A Relaxing, Stress-Free Experience
The early days of parenthood can be overwhelming, so I understand that a newborn photography session may seem like a lot to organise. However, booking a session with The Story of You ensures a stress-free experience from start to finish.
The studio is designed to be a calm, relaxing environment where you can feel at ease while I photograph your baby. I take my time with each session, allowing your newborn to sleep and feed as needed. I am skilled at working with newborns and will guide you through every step of the process, ensuring you feel confident and relaxed throughout the shoot.
Additionally, I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your baby’s needs. If your little one is fussy, hungry, or just needs a nap, I am happy to work around their schedule.
5. Capturing More Than Just Photos — Creating Memories
At The Story of You, my goal is to capture more than just pictures. I aim to tell the story of your baby’s first moments, capturing the emotions, the tenderness, and the love that surrounds them. I take the time to understand the dynamics of your family and the connection you share with your newborn, ensuring that every photo reflects the bond between you and your baby.
From candid, heartfelt moments to beautiful posed shots, newborn sessions are designed to create a narrative of your baby’s early days. I aim to capture the little details that make your baby’s personality shine, whether it’s their adorable little smile, a curious gaze, or the soft curl of their hands.
6. Comfort and Safety First
When it comes to newborn photography, safety is my number one priority. I have years of experience working with newborns and am fully trained in posing techniques that ensure your baby is always safe and comfortable. I use gentle, supportive props and blankets to create soft, safe environments for your baby to relax in, and I always work at your baby’s pace to avoid any distress.
I also take care to keep the studio warm and cosy to help your baby feel calm and sleepy throughout the session. I understand that newborns can be unpredictable, and always give them the time they need for feeding, burping, or comforting. My approach is gentle and patient, so you can feel at ease knowing that your baby is in good hands.
7. High-Quality Products to Showcase Your Photos
At The Story of You, I believe that your baby’s photographs deserve to be displayed in the best way possible. Once your photos are ready, I offer a range of high-quality products to showcase your newborn images in your home. From custom photo albums to framed prints, these products are designed to preserve your memories for years to come.
Photo albums are crafted with care and attention to detail, ensuring that each image is presented beautifully. You can choose from a variety of album designs, including leather-bound options, linen covers, and more, all tailored to complement your personal style. I also offer a selection of frames, canvases, and prints, allowing you to display your newborn’s images in your home in a way that suits your décor.
8. A Lasting Legacy for Your Family
Newborn photography is not just about capturing one moment in time; it’s about creating a legacy for your family. As your child grows, these photos will serve as a reminder of their humble beginnings and the love that surrounded them. Years down the line, you’ll be able to look back at these images and share them with your child, making them part of their own story.
At The Story of You, I take pride in providing you with images that will become part of your family’s history. From your baby’s first days to their first steps, their story is one worth telling, and I am honoured to be part of that journey.

A guide to Studio Dog Photography
What to expect during your studio pet photography session
I love dogs and have three of my own. Any dog lover knows that our dogs are much more than just animals; they’re cherished members of our family. Whether they’re snuggled up beside you on the sofa or bounding with excitement in the garden, our furry companions bring endless joy and love into our lives. That’s why many people come to me for professional photography to capture these special moments, creating memories you can hold onto forever.
At The Story of You, we specialise in capturing the personalities and quirks of your beloved dog in stunning studio photography. However, we understand that many pet owners may have questions or concerns about what to expect during a studio dog photoshoot. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about studio dog photography, from preparation to the final results. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of what to expect and how to ensure your dog’s photo session goes smoothly.
1. Choosing the Right Photographer for Your Dog
The first step to a successful studio dog photoshoot is selecting the right photographer. Not all photographers have experience working with animals, so it’s essential to choose one who is patient, skilled, and comfortable with dogs. At The Story of You, I am specialised in capturing pets, ensuring your dog feels at ease and the photos turn out beautifully.
Before booking your session, be sure to review the photographer’s portfolio to ensure their style aligns with your vision. Whether you prefer natural, candid shots or more formal, posed portraits, it’s crucial that the photographer understands how to showcase your dog’s personality through their work.
2. Pre-Photoshoot Preparation: What You Need to Know
A bit of preparation can make a world of difference in achieving stunning results. Here are some things to consider before you bring your dog into the studio:
a. Ensure Your Dog is Comfortable
It’s important to bring your dog in a calm state, as a relaxed pet will make the photoshoot process easier for everyone involved. Try to avoid bringing your dog in after a long car journey or an intense play session. A good tip is to take your dog for a gentle walk beforehand to burn off any excess energy, so they’re more inclined to relax during the shoot.
b. What to Bring
While we’ll provide most of the props, there are a few things you may want to bring to make your dog feel more at home. This could include their favourite toy, a blanket, or even a special treat to reward them for their good behaviour during the shoot.
If your dog wears a collar or harness that you’d like to be in the photos, make sure it’s clean and free of any clutter. Some owners also bring along outfits or bandanas if they want to add a personalised touch to the photos. However, it’s essential to consider your dog’s comfort — not every dog enjoys wearing accessories, so always prioritise their wellbeing.
c. Grooming Before the Shoot
A fresh groom can enhance your dog’s look, so consider giving them a bath or brushing them beforehand. This will help them look their best and ensure their coat is smooth and shiny. However, avoid excessive grooming the day before the photoshoot, as this may leave them feeling tired or uncomfortable.
3. The Photoshoot Experience: What Happens During the Session
Studio dog photoshoots are designed to be a fun and relaxed experience, both for you and your pet. Here’s what you can expect when you arrive at The Story of You:
a. Getting to Know Your Dog
We understand that every dog is unique, and take the time to get to know your dog before the shoot begins. This allows us to adjust our approach based on their temperament. Some dogs may be shy and need a bit of time to warm up to the studio environment, while others may be playful and excited from the get-go.
I am skilled at working with dogs of all personalities and will make sure your pet feels safe and comfortable. I use positive reinforcement and calm, gentle handling to ensure your dog is at ease throughout the session.
b. Studio Setup
The studio will be set up with various backdrops and props to suit the style of the shoot. We’ll work with you to understand your preferences, whether you want a classic, minimalist backdrop or something more vibrant and playful. The lighting is crucial to capturing the best shots, and I use professional studio lighting to highlight your dog’s features and create stunning images.
During the shoot, I may ask you to assist with getting your dog’s attention — whether it’s through the use of treats, toys, or simply calling their name.
c. Patience and Flexibility
Pets, especially dogs, can be unpredictable, so it’s important to stay patient and flexible during the session. If your dog isn’t cooperating or is feeling anxious, we may need to take breaks or adjust the shoot to help them settle. Some dogs may take time to get used to the studio environment, and I am more than happy to give them the time they need to feel comfortable.
4. What to Expect After the Photoshoot
Once your dog’s photoshoot is complete, the next stage is post-production and delivery. Here’s what to expect after your session:
a. Viewing Your Photos
At The Story of You, we ensure that you get to view the best shots from your session in a convenient way. I will send you a link to your personalised branded viewing gallery to showcase the final edited photos. This is the perfect time for you to select your favourite images for prints, albums, or digital copies.
b. Photo Editing
All photos are professionally edited, ensuring that each image is enhanced to capture your dog in the best light. While I keep the natural look of your pet, I’ll make adjustments such as correcting lighting, removing distractions from the background, or sharpening your dog’s features.
c. Delivery of Prints and Digital Files
After selecting your photos, you’ll have the option to receive your images as high-quality prints or digital files. Prints come in a variety of sizes and formats, perfect for displaying in your home. Whether you prefer a traditional frame, canvas, or even a photo album, I’ll work with you to create beautiful keepsakes that showcase your dog’s personality.
5. How to Get the Best Results from Your Studio Dog Photoshoot
To ensure you get the best possible results from your studio dog photoshoot, keep these tips in mind:
Relax and Have Fun: The more relaxed you and your dog are, the more natural and joyful the photos will turn out. Enjoy the experience, and your dog will feed off your calm energy.
Be Patient: Dogs have their own timelines. If your dog needs a little extra time to settle, that’s okay!I will work with your dog to ensure your dog is comfortable.
Communicate Your Expectations: Let us know if there are any specific shots or styles you prefer. Whether you want playful action shots or serene, posed portraits, I’ll work with you to make sure we capture your dog’s unique character.

Questions to ask your wedding photographer
Choosing the right wedding photographer can be tricky. I have put together a list of questions you might want to consider asking
Your wedding day is one of the most significant events in your life. From the moment you say "I do" to the final toast at your reception, every moment is precious and deserves to be captured beautifully. As a photographer, I understand the importance of selecting the right photographer to document your wedding day. To help guide you in your search, I’ve put together the top 10 questions you should ask a wedding photographer before you make your decision. These questions will ensure that you find someone who not only understands your vision but can also deliver the stunning results you deserve.
1. What is your photography style?
Every photographer has their unique approach to capturing moments. Some lean toward traditional posed shots, while others prefer a more documentary or photojournalistic style, which focuses on candid moments throughout the day. There are also those who incorporate a blend of both, balancing posed portraits with natural, unposed shots.
As a couple, it's important to ask about the photographer’s style and ensure it aligns with your vision for your wedding photos. If you prefer timeless, classic images, you may want a photographer who specialises in traditional portraiture. If you’re more into relaxed, candid shots, a photographer with a documentary style may be the right fit.
2. Can I see a full wedding gallery from start to finish?
It's easy to be swayed by a handful of beautiful images on a photographer’s website or social media, but you need to see how they document an entire wedding. A full gallery will give you insight into how they capture the entire event, from the details and decorations to the big moments like the ceremony, speeches, and first dance.
By asking to see a full gallery, you’ll get a clear sense of the photographer’s consistency and ability to capture every aspect of your day. Every couple who enquires with me is welcome to make an appointment to visit the studio to see full galleries of my work. Some couples opt for privacy and do not want their wedding images shared and I respect this.
3. How many weddings have you photographed?
Experience is invaluable when it comes to wedding photography. An experienced photographer will know how to handle any situation that may arise, whether it’s tricky lighting, unexpected weather, or last-minute changes to the schedule.
While every photographer has to start somewhere, you’ll want someone who has a solid track record in photographing weddings. Ask about the number of weddings they've shot, and consider how their experience aligns with your specific needs. If you're planning a large wedding with a complex schedule or lots of moving parts, you might prefer someone who has handled events of similar size and scope.
4. Are you the one who will be photographing our wedding?
Many wedding photographers work with assistants or second shooters, so it's important to confirm whether the person you’re speaking to will be the one taking your photos. If you like their style and personality, you’ll want to ensure that they, rather than an assistant, are the ones capturing the key moments of your day.
If a second shooter is involved, it can be a huge advantage. They provide additional coverage, capturing moments from different angles and ensuring additional important moments are captured. A second shooter can be added to any of my wedding packages. I do also sometimes have photographers with me wanting to gain experience in weddings. I discuss this opportunity, should it arise, with my couples ahead of time to ensure they are happy for this to happy.
5. What’s included in your wedding photography package?
Wedding photography packages vary widely, so it’s essential to understand exactly what you’ll be getting. Some photographers include an engagement shoot, while others may charge extra for this. Additionally, confirm whether your package includes edited images, a wedding album, or prints, and ask about delivery timelines.
Make sure there are no hidden fees, such as travel costs for destination weddings or extra charges for longer hours on the day. A clear breakdown of the costs and deliverables will help you understand exactly what you're paying for and avoid surprises later.
6. What happens if you’re unable to photograph our wedding due to illness or an emergency?
While this is an unlikely scenario, it’s important to discuss contingency plans. Ask your photographer about what would happen if they became ill or were otherwise unable to photograph your wedding. A professional photographer should have a backup plan in place, such as having a trusted second shooter or a colleague who can step in.
In the unlikely event that something does go wrong, knowing that your photographer has a solid contingency plan can help alleviate any concerns and give you peace of mind.
7. How long after the wedding will we receive our photos?
The anticipation of seeing your wedding photos is exciting, but you don’t want to be left wondering when they will be ready. Photographers typically take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to edit and deliver wedding photos, depending on their workload and the scale of the event.
It’s important to ask about their typical turnaround time and to ensure that it aligns with your expectations.
8. Can we customise our wedding package?
Every couple has different needs and preferences, so it’s worth asking whether the photographer offers customisable packages. For example, you may wish to book the full day package but not want 10 hours of coverage, I could look to reduce the hours and upgrade your album instead. Packages have some degree of flexibility in them and I work with my couples to ensure they have the best value for money.
A flexible photographer who is willing to work with you to create a tailored package can help ensure that you’re getting exactly what you need without paying for extras you don’t want.
9. Do you have insurance?
While it may seem like an odd question, it’s important to ask if the photographer has public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Insurance protects you in case of any accidents or mishaps, such as damaged equipment or if the photographer is unable to attend the wedding.
A professional photographer who carries insurance demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and a level of security that can protect both you and them. It’s a good sign that they take their work seriously and are prepared for the unexpected.
10. How do you handle difficult lighting or weather conditions?
Weddings don’t always take place in perfect lighting conditions, and you’ll need a photographer who can handle a variety of settings, whether it’s a dimly lit church or an outdoor ceremony on a cloudy day. Ask the photographer about how they manage challenging lighting situations or poor weather conditions.
A seasoned wedding photographer will have the skills and equipment to tackle these challenges and still produce high-quality images. Understanding their approach to problem-solving in such situations will give you confidence in their ability to adapt to any circumstances.
Conclusion
Choosing the right wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding. By asking the right questions, you can ensure that you’re hiring someone who is not only talented but also reliable and professional. It’s crucial to find a photographer who understands your vision and is able to bring it to life with skill and creativity.
By taking the time to ask the right questions and evaluate your options carefully, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy your day, knowing that the memories will be captured beautifully for years to come.
